Autumn in the Country Cookbook
is a delightful cookbook from the Gooseberry Patch people.
It is chock full of wonderful seasonal cool weather fall recipes, for everything from breakfast to dinner and desserts.
From soups, stews and easy dinner, great breakfast casseroles and amazing cool weather desserts, to jams, jellies, relishes and salsas.
Most of the recipes would actually be perfect any time of year. They just tend to contain what we consider traditional fall ingredients.
I have to admit, right at the beginning of this review, that I am somewhat prejudiced.
I love Gooseberry Patch cookbooks. You can always count on them for down home, easy to make and extremely tasty recipes.
It is the secret to the success of the entire collection of Gooseberry cookbooks. The recipes are easy to make with ingredients you probably have right in your cupboard. And above all, always delicious. You can count on it.
Have you ever tried a recipe from a cookbook and it turned out absolutely terribly? I sure have. And sometimes, when I look through the ingredients and the process, I realize that it wasn’t anything I did incorrectly, it is just that the recipe has been developed by someone who never tested it out.
You won’t ever have that problem with this cookbook. Each and every one of the recipes in Autumn in the Country has been tested before it is ever included in the book, which means you aren’t wasting your time, money or ingredients on unreliable recipes.
Okay, there always has to be some kind of negative doesn’t there? Well the only one with Autumn in the Country Cookbook , as with all Gooseberry Patch cookbooks, is that they don’t have pictures of the recipes. Seeing what the end product will look like is not only helpful, it does tend to lure me into making the recipe. So that is the one downfall to this book.
On the other hand, it is a very reasonably priced book, so I guess I for one can do without the pictures.
Here is a sampling of some of the wonderful recipes in this cookbook:
- Toasted Pecan Pudding
- Thanksgiving Pumpkin Pie Crunch
- Pesto Baked Pasta
- Cranberry Chicken

- Crispy Corn Fritters
- Stuffed Banana French Toast

I love this book! Almost every recipe makes my mouth water! My only complaint is that I haven’t got enough meals in the year to cook everything in here more than once ; )
And S. Dinkel says:
This is a grand cook book! Yummy recipes, charming drawings, nicely bound. I’ll use this quite a lot!
