Grilled Trout Recipe

Easy grilled trout recipe

This grilled trout recipe can actually be cooked on the grill or in the oven.

It is one of the nicest rainbow trout recipes you will find, and like the best fish recipes, both easy and delicious.

I love rainbow trout. It is like salmon, but more delicate in texture and flavor. It takes to great flavorings really well, so it’s a fish that you can eat often and not have it the same way twice.

This simple recipe combines lemon and butter with a surprising ingredient – French salad dressing.

The French dressing may sound like an odd addition, but the combination of creamy and sweet gives this fish recipe a delicious richness.

I have to admit that adding French salad dressing to fish isn’t something I would have come up with on my own, but once you try it you’ll see that it does make sense. Combined with lemon and the bit of butter in the recipe, it makes for a wonderful sauce for the fish to cook in.

Trout is such a delicate, delicious fish and grilling it like this gives it a wonderful flavor.

You can make this fabulous recipe using salmon if you prefer that to trout. To me the tastes of both fish are similar – the salmon being thicker and stronger flavored, while the thin fillets of trout are more lightly flavored. Either is wonderful for this recipe so take your choice.

I hope you enjoy this wonderful trout recipe.

  1. I’m curious what you mean by “French dressing.” I assume you mean a salad dressing. Is it a vinaigrette? I live in France and that’s the most common salad dressing one encounters here. But your text (“The French dressing may sound like an odd addition, but the combination of creamy and sweet gives this recipe a delicious richness.”) implies that “French dressing” is both “creamy and sweet.” Vinaigrette (well, all except the fruit-based ones) is neither.

    • In Canada, where I live, there is a bottled salad dressing called “French Dressing”. It is reddish in color and a bit sweet, not a traditional French vinaigrette. If you use a vinaigrette that you are familiar with it will taste great. One with a bit of sweetness is what this recipe originally called for. I hope that helps. Karen
